Saint Lucia

Lucia, a beautiful girl born in Syracuse in 283 and died in the same city on 13 December 304, engaged to a wealthy fellow citizen, decided to dissolve her engagement, as a result of the miraculous healing of her mother who made her understand that her way was another .

The boyfriend, not resigning himself to having lost her, tried to convince her in all ways but to no avail, lost all hope of winning her back, he then reported her to Proconsul as a woman of Christian ideas.

The young Lucia was subjected to interrogation, in a process that soon turned into a real doctrinal dispute.

After being cruelly tortured, Lucia was wounded in the throat with a sword.

Before dying, amidst atrocious suffering, she managed to deliver a long and touching speech to her people, who was moved, and was given Holy Communion.
