Santa Maria Bertilla Boscardin
Born in Gioia di Brendola, in the province of Vicenza, on 6 October 1888 in a peasant family, aided by the parish priest, she made her entrance in 1905 to the Maestre nuns of Santa Dorotea Daughters of the Most Holy Hearts in Vicenza.
Becoming a nurse, she worked in the Treviso hospital, where she dedicated herself to serving the sick in body and spirit, indefatigable in helping her sisters.
Although she had been hit by a tumor at only 22 years of age, she continued her work with commitment, made more difficult by the difficulties and tensions of the First World War.
Sent to Como, she suffered greatly from the misunderstanding of some doctor and her superior, without ever complaining or protesting.
Back in Treviso, she resumed her work in hospital despite the aggravation of the disease.
He died at 34, in 1922.
His spiritual greatness lies in having sought ever deeper union with God in fatigue, humility, silence.
His remains are now in Vicenza, in the mother house of his community.
