Schofferhofer Hefeweizen (and my new weizen glass)

Schofferhofer Hefeweizen is a very affordable wheat beer which doesn’t scrimp on flavor. In the pantheon of hefeweizens, I’d say it’s somewhere in the middle of the pack. Not as flavorful as the some, and equally as refreshing as any other hefeweizen, but definitely one of the least expensive,  making it good value for money. You have the standard banana and clove esters but not as pronounced. Very good carbonation. A bit more citrusy than other hefes. For its price point, quite solid, but personally, I’d take Kapuziner any day, because it’s both less expensive and more flavorful.

I’d say I’d rank the German wheat beers available here in the Philippines as follows:

*Weihenstephaner – This isn’t available in the Philippines (yet?!), but I had the opportunity to try what is perhaps the best hefeweizen, perfected after centuries in the oldest brewery in the world.

Tier 1:
1. Paulaner
2. Franziskaner
3. Kapuziner

Tier 2:
4. Schofferhofer
5. Erdinger

Tier 3:
6. Oettinger
