Rogue Juniper Pale Ale and Jollibee Chickenjoy
Jollibee Chickenjoy is the perfect Pinoy comfort food. It’s something all of us grew up enjoying, bringing back memories of kiddie parties and being treated by grandparents. Rogue Juniper Pale Ale, on the other hand, is a more grown up guilty pleasure. I’m not a big fan of Rogue’s beers. I think that their products don’t pack in as much flavor as other breweries do – such Stone, or even Anderson Valley – but at a slightly higher price point. There are a number of Rogue brews I do enjoy however, and the Juniper Pale Ale is one of them. It’s an easy to drink pale ale with a unique flavor because of the juniper berries. I assumed it would taste similar to gin the first time I tried it because of the juniper, but the beer was smooth, crisp and very refreshing.
In a way, this was your typical comfort food paired with a not-so-typical comfort brew. As a struggling law student in the last stretch before I graduate, it’s this kind of no-worries combinations that can really make my day.
