Santa Liduina
Liduina di Schiedam is one of the most revered Dutch saints, she was born on March 18, 1380 in Schiedam in the Netherlands and died in the same city on April 14, 1433.
She is the patron saint of ice skaters and chronically ill.
Santa Liduina lived for 38 years infirm in bed suffering from numerous diseases, since she could no longer stand up following a fall on the ice while she was skating at the age of fifteen.
Liduina, helped by the priest Giovanni de Pot, managed to make sense of what had happened to him by entrusting himself completely to the Lord and collaborating in redemption by offering his pain for the salvation of others.
In confirmation of this entrusting Liduina asked for a sign and a Eucharistic Host appeared above his head, who all saw except the parish priest de Pot, who defined the event as the work of the devil, then the bishop was asked who sent another to Schiedam priest.
Many people went to visit Liduina for advice and comfort.
A statue and the relics of the saint are kept in the "Church of Santa Liduina" in Schiedam.
In 1990 this church was elevated to a basilica by John Paul II.
