San Lorenzo, deacon and martyr, was deacon of the church of Rome and suffered martyrdom in the persecution of Valeriano, four days after the martyrdom of Pope Sixtus II and of his four Roman deacons his colleagues.

His sepulcher is located in via Tiburtina in Campo Verano, where Constantine the Great had the homonymous basilica built.

Its cult was already widespread in the Church since the fourth century.

He is considered the patron saint of librarians, cooks, booksellers, pastry chefs, wormers, firefighters, takeaways and glass workers.
