Ludovico was born in the year 1214 and was educated Christianly by his mother Bianca of Castile, who, after the premature death of her husband, exercised the regency of the kingdom until the age of her son.

As soon as he became king of France, Ludovico distinguished himself for the cult of justice and for the respect of the rights of others, taking care not only of the temporal good of the people but also of the spiritual one.

He was a true lay model who worked intensely for the Kingdom of God, cooperating in the construction of the earthly city.

From the marriage to Margherita of Provence he had eleven children, whom he educated very righteously.

He enrolled in the Franciscan Third Order and was exemplary in the life of prayer, mortification and charity towards the poor.

He placed under his protection and defended the mendicant Orders.

He undertook two crusades to free the tomb of Christ and died, struck by the plague, near Tunis on August 25, 1270.

Pope Boniface VIII declared him a saint in 1297.
