Martyr Saint Sabina
Sabina, born in Rome in the second century in a noble family, was still married to Senator Valentino when she was very young.
Converted to Christianity, she frequented the environment of the catacombs, which were the places where Christians persecuted by the Roman state met, accompanied by the handmaid Serapia who, according to a tradition, converted the saint.
In the year 120, she was captured during the celebration of a mass, in the unsuccessful attempt to have her abjured, then the prefect Elpidio sentenced her to beheading together with her companion Serapia.
Their relics are found today in the basilica of Santa Sabina all 'Aventino, founded in 425 by Pietro d'Illiria, on the remains of a place considered protected by the saint.
A second church dedicated to Santa Sabina is that of San Benedetto dei Marsi, built around the eighth century.
