Baked cabbage with walnut sauce

How to make cabbage cooked in the oven with gravy, a recipe with walnuts with a very delicate flavor, to be served hot both as a first course instead of a soup and as a side dish for roasted meats.


Ingredients for 4 people

- 1 savoy cabbage of about 800 g

- 1 cup of water


- 1 cup of nut broth

- 1 cup of liquid cream

- 30 g of butter


- 1 pickled onion with 2 cloves

- 3 tablespoons of white flour

- 1 tablespoon of curry powder


- 2 tablespoons of coarsely chopped walnut kernels

- 1 bay leaf

How to prepare cabbage in the oven with gravy

Remove the hard outer leaves and the cabbage core, leaving it intact in the shape, then wash it and put it in a pot together with the broth, a cup of water, a bay leaf, the clove of garlic, the pickled onion with two cloves, salt and freshly ground pepper.

Leave to cook on a moderate heat for about ten minutes, then pull the cabbage out of the pan and place it in a buttered baking dish.

Melt the butter in a pan, mix the flour, pour the liquid cream little by little, stirring over low heat, until the sauce obtained will raise the boil.

At this point, pull up half a ladle of sauce and pour it into a bowl, add a teaspoon of curry powder and mix.


Put everything back in the pan and turn the sauce over carefully, then add salt and cook on low heat for 5 minutes more, stirring with a wooden spoon.

Pour the sauce over the cabbage already placed in the pan and spread the chopped walnut kernels on the surface, then put in a hot oven for about 15 minutes.
