The saint of the day December 4 is Santa Barbara, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
Santa Barbara
Born in Nicomedia in 273, Barbara distinguished herself for a life dedicated to study and confidentiality.
A young man of rare beauty from the city of Nicomedia, Barbara was locked up by her father Dioscoro in a bronze tower, to protect her from prying eyes.
Here she was miraculously visited by Jesus who taught her in the Christian faith and by John the Baptist who baptized her.
Once her Christian faith was discovered, it was handed over by her father to the same prefect of the city who after horrible torture sentenced her to death.
According to tradition, it was the father who inflicted the fatal blow and, for this reason, the man was immediately incinerated by lightning.
For this reason the Saint became the protector of the explosives and of the people who work with them.
Its name also indicates the deposit of weapons on ships.
Traditionally it is customary to invoke Santa Barbara against lightning, fire and sudden death.
The relics of the Saint are located in the cathedral of Rieti.
