San Massimo di Pavia
Massimo's episcopate is located in the period between the end of the fifth century and the beginning of the sixth.
He was ambassador of Theodoric and took part in several councils held in Rome between the fifth and sixth centuries.
Information on his life is rare and unreliable, probably due to the confused period in which he lived, located between the fall of the Western Roman Empire and the barbarian reign of the Ostrogoths.
Bishop Massimo was the successor of Epiphanius and the predecessor of Ennodio, who also wrote sentences of praise in one of his literary works that has come down to the present day.
Some historical documents speak of this character, including one from the thirteenth century where 9 January is indicated as the day of his memory and another from the fourteenth century that inserts him among the bishops of Pavia made Saints and where the burial place is declared church of San Giovanni in Borgo.
Due to a transcription error in the episcopal list of the ancient city of Pavia, Bishops Maximus result in two, but in reality it is the same person mentioned twice.
Today San Massimo is celebrated solemnly in the diocese of Pavia on 8 January.
