The Saint of the day 25 July is Saint James the Apostle, called the Major, which is celebrated as name day and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
St. James the Apostle
Saint James the Apostle, called the Major, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, brother of John the evangelist.
The Major is said to distinguish him from James of Alphaeus who is instead referred to as the Minor.
Together with Peter and his brother John, he plays a fundamental role in the itinerant ministry of Jesus.
Killed by sword by order of Herod Agrippa I, around 43, he is the first martyr among the apostles.
He is venerated by all the Christian churches that share the cult of saints.
Among the places of worship of the Catholic tradition where San Giacomo is venerated, a very popular place is Santiago de Compostela, where the mortal remains of the saint have been found since the 9th century.
