LCD monitor: which to choose based on the characteristics

post-title

Guide to choosing and mounting a lcd led monitor for desktop computers, important features, dimensions, response time and connections.

Which lcd monitor

In the LCD liquid crystal display, the response time in milliseconds is important as well as the update frequency which must never be below 60 Hertz for correct visual comfort.

An LCD screen uses liquid crystal technology and is physically thin and light with no moving parts.

Inside there is a liquid trapped in numerous cells provided with electrical contacts so that an electric field can be applied to the liquid contained in them.

Technically we can say that the cells are in turn contained within two polarizing screens along axes perpendicular to each other and the liquid crystals deflect the polarization of the light that arrives from one of the two polarizers by 90 ° by passing it through the other.

The size of the screen is measured diagonally using the thumb as a unit of measurement and the size can be up to 65 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels for television use.

In the case of computers, the correct sizes are 15 ", 17", 19 ", 22" and 24 ".

Factors to consider besides a good image quality are also the response time which must be below 8 milliseconds to avoid the annoying trails generated by objects moving very quickly on the screen, for example when watching a movie or during a videogame.

Although in many cases a vertical refresh rate of 60 Hz is also sufficient for an LCD monitor to prevent visual fatigue, there are LCD monitors available that also reach 75 Hz and beyond and are clearly preferable.

Other features to consider when choosing are the presence of a digital input dvi beyond the traditional vga and a possible supply of additional programs for optimal management of the monitor.

Commendable is the very low consumption of electricity by this type of monitor which, hovering around 30 watts, is much lower than a CRT monitor (about 70% lower).

  • Office Programs: word processing, management

The assembly of an LCD monitor is simple, you need to connect the cables (network and video connection VGA or DVI) and install any drivers and programs in addition.
