Saint Rita of Cascia
Born in 1381 in Roccaporena, near Cascia in Umbria, Rita wanted to devote herself to God since she was a child, but her parents pushed her to marry a willing man, unaware of her violent character.
After the killing of her husband by an enemy who had made himself because of his behavior, and the loss of his two children, Rita felt a lot of pain in feeling hated, for a certain period of time, by relatives but, thanks to the his great Christian faith, he managed to restore peace in relations with them.
Once she was widowed and alone, but in peace with everyone, she was welcomed into the Augustinian monastery of Santa Maria Maddalena in Cascia, where she continued her life for another forty years of humble and charitable behavior, praying and doing penance.
The last fifteen years of his life were marked by the sign on the forehead of his profound union with the crucified Jesus,
He died on May 22, 1457.
Her body is venerated in the sanctuary of Cascia, which is the destination of continuous pilgrimages by faithful who invoke it as a dispenser of graces, a saint of forgiveness and a bearer of peace.
In 1627 she was beatified by Urban VIII while, on May 24, 1900, she was made a saint under the pontificate of Leo XIII.
