Santa Geltrude the Great
Geltrude was born in 1256 in Thuringia probably in Eisleben, a city located north-west of Leipzig.
Of the period concerning her childhood, there is only news regarding an event that gave a turning point in her life, that is the still childish entry into the Cistercian monastery of Helfta in Saxony, where she diligently completed her studies, with particular attention paid to the subjects of letters and philosophy.
This intense dedication to the study of Geltrude was also favored by the intense cultural climate that was breathed in that monastery, thanks above all to the presence of some nuns with strong teaching skills to young women.
Completely consecrated to God, she walked the path of perfection in a wonderful way, dedicating herself to prayer and contemplation.
He died on November 17, 1301.
