Pineto degli abruzzi (Abruzzo): what to see

post-title

What to see in Pineto degli Abruzzi, an itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including Torre di Cerrano, Pineta Catucci and beach.

Tourist information

Renowned seaside resort washed by the Adriatic Sea, Pineto has obtained the recognition of the European blue flag for the good quality of its sea, as well as for a rich offer of services offered to tourists.

The first news about Pineto is very ancient, in fact, it dates back to the era of Roman domination.

Pineto degli Abruzzi attracts every year, during the summer months, a considerable flow of vacationers and daily tourists, thanks to the wide availability of free and equipped beaches, easily accessible from the promenade, equipped with a comfortable and long cycle path.

Near the sea is the well-known Catucci pine forest, whose pines were planted from 1926 onwards, thanks to the interest of the commendator Luigi Filiani, an important and far-sighted owner of the area, who took a few plots of land on the beach in concession, with the purpose to bring their appearance back in time, or when they were entirely covered with vegetation.

On 30 May 1930 the town, which until then was called Villa Filiani and was a fraction of Mutignano, was given the new name of Pineto.

What see

Over time, the historic pine forest, the one desired by Filiani, was joined by the pine forest of Foggetta and a new dense reforestation of the southern part.

In this way, the current pine forest has reached a length of over 3 km from south to north, occupying the stretch that goes from the mouth of the Calvano stream to the Torre di Cerrano, following the beach of Pineto in parallel.

The pine forest, whose parts are connected by 9 wooden bridges, represents the ideal place for those who want to enjoy sports and long walks in the open air.

On the beach there is the Torre di Cerrano, one of the most famous watchtowers on the Abruzzo coast, which houses the center dedicated to the study of marine biology.

In the historic center of Pineto, the Parish Church is certainly worth a visit, where many works by local artists are kept.
