Northwest Vietnam city, SaPa is located at about 1500 meters above sea level, near the border with China, and about 40 kilometers from the Vietnamese city of Lao Cai, which constitutes its gateway.

Starting from Hanoi, the best way to reach Lao Cai is by train, it takes about 10 hours of travel, then from Lao Cai it is possible to get to Sa Pa, taking about an hour of time, taking the bus or taxi.


Surrounded by the Hoang Lien mountain range, the city is dominated by the Fansipan peak which, with its 3,143 meters, represents the highest mountain in Vietnam.

The expanses of rice fields that cover the terraces obtained from the steep slopes of the mountains characterize the landscape of this fascinating mountain resort.

Through trekking routes, you can admire the splendid views of the valley and reach the villages inhabited by various ethnic groups.


In fact, in this area the largest number of ethnic groups of Vietnam is gathered, engaged largely in agriculture and in the realization of craftsmanship, in particular artifacts made by women, very good at making clothes, pillows, blankets and other items to be sold especially to tourists and markets that take place in Sa Pa and, every week, in various locations in the province of Lao Cai.

These lively and colorful local markets, where you can find any kind of product, including traditional objects, fruit, vegetables, livestock and more, are not only a place intended for trade and exchange of goods, but also an opportunity for meeting for the population and interesting destination for tourists.

The best time to go to Sa Pa is between May and August, when the weather is mild with some rain every now and then.

In the winter months, however, the temperature drops sharply, frequent mists occur and it is not so rare to come across some snow.
