Verbania (Piedmont): what to see

post-title

What to see in Verbania, itinerary including the main places to visit, including the Basilica of San Vittore, Villa Taranto and the Church of San Remigio.

Tourist information

Born from the union of the two centers of Intra and Pallanza, Verbania is a holiday resort and main center of the central basin of Lake Maggiore.

The location constitutes one of the two terminals of the only ferry line for the transport of cars on the lake, the other is located in Laveno.

Pallanza, which was a Roman settlement, in the medieval period became property first of Novara and then of the counts of Biandrate.

In the fourteenth century, together with Intra, it was acquired by the Visconti.

In 1535 it became a Spanish possession and in 1743 Savoy, with the exception of Intra which always remained a territory belonging to the Borromeo.

What see

In Intra there is the eighteenth-century Basilica of San Vittore, built on top of an older church.

Starting from the characteristic nineteenth-century pier, the path of the romantic lakefront begins.

In Palianza, located on the Borromeo Gulf, stands Villa Taranto, a late nineteenth century building, surrounded by large gardens characterized by the presence of springs, fountains and lawns.

The park is highly appreciated for the countless rare plants that are collected there.

At the top of the promontory stands the church of San Remigio, an interesting Romanesque building built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries, where you can admire some frescoes and a sixteenth-century porch.
