As for the territorial extension, Alabama is located in the southern part of the United States and extends for over 135,000 square km, placing it in thirtieth place in order of size among the US major states.

The main cities of Alabama are Birmingham, Mobile, Montgomery and Huntsville.

In Alabama there are extensive cotton crops, thanks to the vastness of its plains with particularly fertile soil.

In the northern part there are several not so high mountains, of which the largest is Mount Cheaha with its 734 meters, and valleys mainly crossed by the Tennessee river with the presence of some lakes and minor streams.

Still in the north, cattle breeding is quite developed.

The economic wealth of this state focuses on some subsoil wealth including the coal mines of the southern Appalachians, iron ores and bauxite.

Over the years, the metallurgical and iron and steel industries have experienced significant development, and aluminum and cotton production has also grown exponentially.

For many years, the economy of Alabama has relied heavily on the iron and steel industries, while in recent times there has been a significant diversification in favor of medical research, banks, biotechnology and information technology.
