The Saint of the day 7 April is San Giovanni Battista de La Salle, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
Saint John the Baptist de La Salle
Born in Reims on April 30, 1651 to noble parents and with nine brothers, he studied literature and philosophy, becoming a priest in 1678.
He held various positions, including teaching in schools founded by Adriano Nyel, a lay person who had dedicated his life to popular education.
Being the colleagues of those low culture schools and with few stimuli, he decides to bring them together in a common house and to live with them, to make them study and to observe the methods used and the organization of the school activity.
He promotes a method for learning and, after removing the Latin lessons from the program, introduces the French language in all subjects.
In 1680 he founded the school community of the "Brothers of the Christian Schools" in Paris, whose uniform is a black cassock with white bib, peasant cloak and clogs.
Later under the guidance of Giovanni other schools were born and the pupils increased year after year.
But at some point, due to the intertwining of external criticisms and obstacles, the community will be transferred to the village of Saint-Yon, near Rouen, where Giovanni will cease to live on April 7, 1719.
