Sant’Alfonso Maria de ’Liguori

He was born in Naples in 1696.

After graduating in civil and ecclesiastical law, he became a priest and founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer.

He began preaching to promote Christian life among the people and wrote books on moral theology, of which he is considered a distinguished teacher.

Elected bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti, he renounced his position shortly after and died in 1787 among his family in Nocera dei Pagani in Campania.
