The Assumption of Mary into Heaven is a Catholic dogma in which it is stated that after her death Mary went directly to Heaven, assumed and welcomed to heaven both with her soul and with her body.

The Assumption of Mary represents an anticipation of the resurrection of the flesh, which other men will reach when there is universal judgment, which will occur at the end of time.

The Catholic dogma was proclaimed by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950, on the occasion of the Holy Year, through the apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus.

Some theologians say that the proclamation of this dogma would be the only time that a pontiff has made use of papal infallibility, which had been formally established in 1870.

On this specific occasion, the pope proclaimed a dogma by fully exercising the office of Pastor and Doctor of all Christians.
