San Rocco
Rocco, born of a noble family in the late 1200s, donated all his belongings to the poor and set off as a pilgrim to Rome.
At Acquapendente he stopped to help the numerous patients who had contracted a plague that was decimating Europe.
Pilgrimage throughout the Italian territory, he carried out his thaumaturgic activity until he too got sick of the plague.
Retiring to solitude, every day he received a visit from a dog who, sent by the noble Gotthard, brought him food and licked his wound to heal it.
He was captured on the border with France as a spy and thrown into prison where he later died.
Legend has it that his remains were brought to Venice, the city of which he became patron with San Marco.
