The Seraphic Father Francesco, for his singular love for the Blessed Virgin, always took particular care of the church dedicated to Santa Maria degli Angeli, also called Porziuncola.

Here he took up a permanent residence with his friars, here he began the Order of the Poor Clares with Saint Clare, here he concluded the course of his admirable life.

For this chapel the holy Founder obtained the historic indulgence from Pope Honorius III, which the Supreme Pontiffs subsequently confirmed and extended to numerous other churches.

For these glorious memories, the Seraphic Order joyfully celebrates the feast of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
