The Saint of the day August 28 is Saint Augustine bishop doctor, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
Saint Augustine bishop
Saint Augustine was born in Tagaste, Numidia city, in Africa on November 13, 354 to a family who owned some plots of land.
He spent a restless adolescence both intellectually and morally, until, converted to faith, in 387 he was baptized in Milan by Bishop Ambrose.
Returning home, he led ascetic life.
Elected then bishop of Hippo, he soon became an example for his faithful.
He made numerous speeches and writings, with which he strongly criticized the errors of his time, illustrating with wisdom the principles of the Christian faith.
The guidelines of his doctrine arise from Christ and from the Holy Scriptures of which, unlike other writings, personal criticisms or interpretations are not possible.
St. Augustine's thought concerns the problem of sin and grace as the only means of salvation.
From a philosophical point of view, he developed the theme of interiority, arguing that it is in the intimacy of one's conscience that God is discovered and that certainty is found that makes any skepticism overcome.
He died on August 28, 430 at the age of 76.
