Blessed Octavian bishop

Octavian was an Italian Catholic bishop who died in Savona in 1128.

He completed his studies in Pavia, subsequently taking the vows of the Order of San Benedetto in the Monastery of San Pietro in Ciel d’Oro.

As soon as he was appointed bishop of Savona in 1119, he immediately began to perform works of charity towards the poor.

Died in Savona in 1128, the body was exposed a few days in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Castello, available to the faithful for veneration before being buried.

Subsequently the body was exhumed and placed in a glass case.

After the destruction of the ancient cathedral by soldiers of the Republic of Genoa to create the space where to build the current Priamar Fortress, the casket was transferred in 1605 to the Cathedral of the Assumption, where it is still stored today.

The remains were carried in procession through the city streets in 1657, in the period in which Savona had been severely affected by a plague epidemic, and in 1835 as a thank you to the bishop for the escaped cholera epidemic.
