Badia Polesine (Veneto): what to see

post-title

What to see in Badia Polesine, itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including the Abbey of the Vangadizza, the Palazzo degli Estensi and the Civic Museum.

Tourist information

Located in the province of Rovigo, Badia Polesine is a small village in the Veneto region whose origins date back to the fourth century BC. C., when it was born as an agglomeration based on peasant traditions.

This thanks to its favorable geographical position, corresponding to the point where the waters of the Naviglio river separate from the waters of the Adige.

The town experienced its greatest development in the Middle Ages, when the Abbey of Santa Maria della Vangadizza was erected in the eleventh century.

Visiting the Abbey you can admire the cloister, the refectory and a chapel dedicated to the Madonna, expertly decorated with frescoes and marble.

The buildings in the historic center, which are from the Renaissance period, were in the past owned by the Duke of Este family.

What see

In a remarkable seventeenth-century building, now used as the town hall, a hall entirely decorated in Art Nouveau style deserves to be seen.

The Palazzo degli Estensi, dating back to the 1400s and built in late Gothic style, is located along the homonymous street a short distance from the Vangadizza Abbey.

Thanks to its elegant and well-structured appearance, it is one of the most significant buildings in Badia Polesine.

The Civic Museum, housed in the building that was once the seat of a monastery, contains an interesting collection of archaeological finds from all the surrounding area, as well as objects of various nature dating back to various eras and a sixteenth-century painting depicting last dinner.
