How to make baked American potatoes, an excellent side dish for roasted meats, prepared with a filling made with cream cheese, butter, milk and a pinch of paprika.
Ingredients for 4 people
- 4 very large potatoes, more or less the same size
- 1/2 large glass of milk
- 80 g of cream cheese, stracchino or similar
- 80 g of melted butter
- a pinch of paprika
- salt
- butter for the pan
How to prepare American-style potatoes in the oven
Wash the potatoes well with the peel and dry them.
Brush them lightly with a little melted butter and place them on the plate.
Cook them in a very hot oven for about an hour, or until the pulp is soft by pressing with your fingers.

Remove the plate from the oven and with a sharp knife make a cross cut on the surface of the potatoes.
Lift the four corners of the peel and with a spoon remove part of the pulp from each potato, so as to form a recess.
Pass the pulp in the vegetable mill and collect the puree obtained in a container, then add a pinch of salt, a spoonful of melted butter, then mix with a wooden spoon.
In another bowl, work the cheese with the milk and the remaining melted butter, until it forms a creamy mixture.
With this creamy mixture fill three quarters of the cavity of the potatoes.
Cover with the previously prepared puree and sprinkle with a pinch of paprika.
Butter a baking tray, arrange the potatoes and pass them again in the oven for fifteen minutes or until a golden crust has formed on the surface.
Serve hot potatoes on the table.
