What to see in Bominaco, an itinerary to discover the ancient Abbey in the province of L'Aquila, including Oratorio San Pellegrino, Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the ruins of the Castle.


Tourist information

In Bominaco, which is a fraction of Caporciano, an Abbey once stood which included the Oratory of San Pellegrino inside.

In 1423 the monastery was destroyed because of a dispute between the Benedictine monks and the bishop of Valva.


The churches of Santa Maria Assunta and San Pellegrino remain of the ancient abbey complex, together with the remains of a castle.

In the Oratory of San Pellegrino, a church erected on a previous construction, it is possible to admire an interior completely covered with frescoes, whose authors are three unknown artists.

What see

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the rock, dates back to around the year 1000.

On its facade there are four lions protruding from a large window.

Inside the building of worship there are recovered Roman materials, including valuable capitals, there is also a thirteenth-century ciborium of considerable artistic value.
