What to see in Bordighera, itinerary including the main monuments and places of interest, including the Bicknell Museum, the Lungomare Argentina and the Sant’Ampelio Church.

Founded in the second half of the fifteenth century with the name of Bordighetta, Bordighera is a renowned seaside resort, developed along the Ventimiglia coast, known in particular for the widespread cultivation of flowers.

In the Bicknell Museum, located in the homonymous road, remarkable prehistoric finds and the casts of the rock carvings on Mount Bego are preserved.


The international institute of Ligurian studies is also located within the same building.

Continuing along via Bicknell you reach via Romana, which develops in the midst of elegant buildings located at the foot of the hill.

In this street there is the international library, which contains ancient volumes.


Walking on the Argentina promenade you can admire suggestive panoramic views.

What see

The historic center is concentrated on Capo Sant’Ampelio, where the Romanesque church of the same name is located, while on the cliff stands the church of Sant’Ampelio, including a crypt dating back to the 11th century.

In the surroundings of Bordighera there is Dolceacqua, a small town located about 9 km on the banks of the Nervia stream, known for having been a fief of the Dorias and for being overlooked by a fifteenth-century castle, as well as for the production of the renowned local red wine.


At 5 km there is Vallebona, a town of ancient origins where you can view the interesting aspect of medieval fortification.

Among the excursions to do in the area, the one in Pigna, a place of medieval origin located 24 km away, famous for the sources of sulphurous water, deserves particular attention.

The Church of San Michele from 1450, built on a previous cult building, is very interesting from an artistic point of view.

In Seborga, a holiday resort located about 12 km and located at the foot of Monte Nero, you can admire the remains of the castle and the church of San Martino, built in the seventeenth century.
