Camogli (Liguria): what to see

post-title

What to see in Camogli, itinerary including the main places of interest, including small harbor, Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Castello della Dragonara, naval museum and archaeological museum.

Tourist information

Located in front of the Golfo Paradiso, which is located west of the Portofino mountain, Camogli is one of the most suggestive tourist and seafaring centers of the Ligurian Riviera.

With origins dating back to prehistoric times, Camogli became a possession of the Fieschi in the Middle Ages, before being linked to the Republic of Genoa in the sixteenth century.

The place that most characterizes the village is the marina, enclosed between the colorful and vertically developed houses of the fishermen, with a seventeenth-century pier.

On the second Sunday of May the characteristic fish festival takes place, during which a huge frying of fish is done in pans with a diameter of a few meters.

What see

Above a rocky outcrop are the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, dating from the twelfth century, and the Castello della Dragonara, in whose tower there is the Tyrrhenian aquarium.

A visit to the Gio Bono Ferrari naval museum is recommended, where the ancient seafaring tradition of the town is documented, as well as that of the Cuneo municipal library, with a museum room that displays archaeological finds.

Very particular is the village of Ruta, which is made up of houses that seem to cling to the promontory of Portofino.

Nearby it is worth visiting Punta Chiappa, a picturesque town along the coast characterized by the presence of a huge boulder reaching out to the sea and reachable only by boat or by taking a romantic path.
