Capo Rizzuto (Calabria): what to see on the island

post-title

What to see in Capo Rizzuto, an itinerary including the main places of interest on the island of Calabria, including sandy beaches and the Greek Madonna.

Tourist information

Seaside resort located along the Calabrian coast washed by the Ionian Sea, Capo Rizzuto has a territory whose traces of human settlements are lost in the mists of time.

The numerous archaeological discoveries distributed throughout the area show that the Greeks settled there since the eighth century before Christ, probably because they were attracted by the favorable climatic conditions and the scenic beauty of the place.

In Capo Rizzuto there are extensive beaches of fine sand and the sea is characterized by low and clear bottoms, while the hinterland leaves room for a vast pine forest.

What see

Among the main places to visit include the Sanctuary of the Greek Madonna, the Old Tower and the New Tower, both erected as a guard along the coast, in particular to counteract the raids of Turkish pirates.

Also worth seeing is Pietranaste, or a quadrangular rock where cavities were obtained suitable for housing the bodies of the dead or the urns containing the ashes obtained from their combustion.

Among the gastronomic specialties it is worth tasting the nduja, a typical local product of Vibo Valentia, based on pork and chili pepper, whose appearance is similar to a seasoned spicy salami soft enough to be spread on bread.
