Town of the Val di Chiana in the province of Arezzo, Castiglion Fiorentino has Roman origins.

After being owned by the Bourbons from Monte and the Aretini, in the fourteenth century it became part of the domains of Florence.


The medieval village, with its walls and towers, is in a good state of conservation.

The Town Hall and the Vasari Lodges, located in the square of the same name, date back to the sixteenth century.

In the Town Hall there is the Pinacoteca, where objects of worship, various goldsmiths and local ceramics are exhibited, as well as remarkable paintings by Umbrian and Tuscan artists.


What see

Starting from the 14th century Porta Fiorentina, located in Corso Italia, it is possible to reach the Church of San Francesco, located on the right side.

The Franciscan building, dating back to the end of the thirteenth century, preserves inside a remarkable painting by Margheritone d’Arezzo, depicting San Francesco.

In the vicinity of Vicolo Repente there is a square where a fifteenth century parish church and a collegiate church of the nineteenth century are located, which houses inside a Madonna by Bartolomeo della Gatta, a remarkable terracotta by Della Robbia, and a table by Lorenzo di Credi .

Noteworthy are the choir in the apse and the Madonna on the throne made by Segna di Bonaventura, located in the left transept.

Of particular interest is the Church of the Madonna della Consolazione, built in the early 1600s on a project by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger.
