Castles of Bavaria (Germany): which are they

post-title

What are the Castles of Bavaria to visit, an itinerary including the most famous castles of Bavaria, or Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein, commonly known as Ludwig's castles.

Itinerary

Hohenschwangau Castle, located near Fussen, was built in neo-Gothic style in the period between 1833 and 1837 on commission of King Maximilian II of Bavaria, in the place where the ruins of a previous castle were located.

It was designed by the scenographer Domenico Quaglio, belonging to a family of Italian artists originating in the province of Como, who moved to Monaco from the end of the eighteenth century.

The castle, surrounded by a beautiful park, has interiors nobly furnished in Biedermeier style and decorated with scenes inspired by medieval legends and poems.

Summer residence of the royal family, it was inhabited for a long time by Queen Maria, mother of Louis II.

Just over a kilometer away is Neuschwanstein Castle, built between 1869 and 1886 by Louis II, known as Ludwig, on the ruins of two other small fortresses.

This neo-Gothic fairytale castle is a splendid romantic construction, designed by architect Eduard Riedel, inspired by the designs of the scenographer Ch.Jank.

Louis II, with his fervent imagination, wanted it to be made in the authentic style of the ancient fortresses of the German knights, as he himself had written in a letter to the beloved Richard Wagner, composer of whom Louis II had a great admiration, so much so It is true that many rooms of the castle are arranged as if they were scenographic installations of his works.
