There is no certain information regarding the life of Santa Bibiana, to whom a church on the Esquiline was dedicated under the pontificate of Pope Simplicio in the fifth century.
The cult of Bibiana over the centuries has always been rather felt, probably also thanks to its name, which has the same origin as the name of Viviana.
This name is in fact traditionally linked to the verb to live and considered synonymous with vitality.
According to what was stated in the "Passio Bibianae", Santa Bibiana was the victim of the anti-Christian persecution wanted by the emperor Julian the Apostate, who worked with all means to hinder the Christian faith, despite the freedom of worship recognized by the previous emperor Constantine in 313 .
Legend has it that the saint's body was fed to the stray dogs, who however left it totally intact.
The remains were collected by Don Giovanni, who placed them in his father's palace, in that period entrusted to the care of Olympia, who was a Roman matron.
