Tourist information

Hilly center located on the left of the Tiber river in the province of Perugia, from which it is 19 km away, Deruta has been famous since medieval times for the production of artistic ceramics.

Probably of Roman origin, Deruta as we see it today was born in the Middle Ages and belonged to the city of Perugia.

The Church of San Francesco, dating back to the fourteenth century, has a bell tower made of terracotta and an interior with a single nave where interesting frescoes are preserved made between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries.

What see

In Piazza dei Consoli there is the Palazzo Comunale, with three Romanesque mullioned windows which open in the facade, inside which the Pinacoteca is set up, which exhibits works by Alunno, Guido Reni and Conca, and the Ceramics Museum, where local ceramics are kept built between 1500 and 1700.

In the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate you can admire frescoes by Caporali and a remarkable eighteenth-century choir.

The State Institute of Art for Ceramics is one of the major schools where you can learn the art of ceramic production.

In the surroundings of Deruta, about 6 km away, is Torcigliano where, in the seventeenth-century Palazzo Graziani-Baglioni, there is the Wine Museum, which tells the story of the techniques relating to the cultivation of vines and winemaking.
