Tourist information

Italy's highest provincial capital, located at 948 m above sea level, Enna is called the "navel of Sicily", due to its central position in the region.

Ancient Sicilian city, it was subjected to the dominion of Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines and Normans, also the kings Frederick II of Swabia and Frederick II of Aragon were fond of it.

In the highest area of the city, from which it is possible to admire a wonderful panorama, there is the Castello di Lombardia, considered one of the most interesting medieval castles in Sicily.

Erected in a strategic position, it dominates the entire gorge below and, to make it more enemy-proof, the slopes of the mountain were partially cut to create an impediment to its climbing.

In the first of its internal courtyards, an outdoor theater has been recently built that can accommodate about 8000 spectators.

What see

From the top of a hill, in a different position from that of the Castle, dominates the Tower of Frederick II of Swabia, 24 meters high and octagonal in shape.

The Alessi Museum is worth a visit, where a wonderful collection of Greek-Sicilian and Roman coins is kept, as well as prints, paintings and ceramics.

Do not miss a visit to the beautiful Duomo.

From Enna it is possible to easily reach Lake Pergusa, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and used to organize hunting games with boats, speedboat races, water skiing and car races that take place on the racetrack that winds along its perimeter.

The mythological tradition tells that in this lake Pluto has kidnapped Proserpina.
