Estoril (Portugal): what to see, beaches, excursions

post-title

What to see in Estoril, Portugal's famous tourist center, itinerary including the Alapraia Caves, sandy beaches and excursions to nearby centers and other places.

Tourist information

A very popular tourist center, Estoril is located about 22 km from Lisbon and less than 5 km from Cascais.

The climate is temperate, similar to that typical of southern France.

The urban expansion of this ancient fishing village took place around its Casino, one of the best known in Europe.

In the city there are modern hotel structures which, together with the excellent beaches, contribute to attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year.

Nearby are the prehistoric caves of Alapraia, a necropolis dating back to the period between the Stone Age and the Iron Age.

Some scholars agree that the caves served not only as a cemetery but also as a warehouse for wood and as a shelter for cattle.

Most of the objects found are exhibited in the Museo de los Condes de Castro Guimaraes in Cascais.

What see

A short distance from the center there are vast sandy beaches, while moving north you will find the ideal beaches for surfing.

Estoril is also a starting point for interesting excursions, in fact you can quickly reach Lisbon by train, while by bus you can quickly reach Sintra, a delightful town, and the hills of the Serra de Sintra National Park.

During the summer, Estoril presents itself with a very lively evening atmosphere, with restaurants where you can taste excellent food and entertainment shows organized at the Casino.
