post-title

Tourist information

Located in Tuscany in the province of Grosseto, Follonica is located in the center of the homonymous gulf, in front of the splendid islands that characterize the Tuscan archipelago.

The city has a modern and welcoming imprint, surrounded by pine forests and the typical Mediterranean scrub, also in its gulf there are wonderful white sand beaches, as well as small pristine coves characterized by crystal clear sea and lush vegetation.

There is no lack of facilities dedicated to sports and restaurants where you can taste a typical cuisine that combines peasant recipes with seafood specialties.

The place name derives from the term fulloni, referring to the bellows used in foundries.

In fact, the history of Follonica has a close link with the art of casting and especially with Leopold II of Lorraine, who promoted the birth of the first technologically advanced foundry.

What see

The present city was born in 1832, in the period in which around the ancient ovens of the Medicean era the first village was built to house the workers.

However, Follonica has a much more ancient past, testified by remarkable archaeological sites, dating back to the period between the seventh and sixth centuries before Christ, including a village from the sixth century BC. and two seventh century BC tombs.

Historians believe that the Etruscans of Val Petraia used wood from the surrounding woods to feed the nearby Rondelli ovens.
