How to clean coral
Simple procedure to clean a coral necklace, a material that, although today more and more difficult to find, is highly appreciated for its infinite chromatic variations and characteristics of good workability.
These qualities make it ideal for making handcrafted jewels of higher and lower value, depending on the ability of the craftsmen to know how to exploit the excellent characteristics to create refined jewels.
It must be considered that coral is a rather delicate material and for this reason it must be conserved with great care, periodically subjecting it to small DIY maintenance works, aimed mainly at keeping its natural shine unchanged over time.
To do this, first of all take a basin and fill it with a glass of water and one of ammonia, then immerse the coral object to be cleaned, leaving the solution to act for about a quarter of an hour.
Once this is done, rinse under cold running water and clean any notches with a toothbrush, removing the accumulated dirt that in the meantime will have softened.
With a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, finish the object to remove the last traces of dirt left, then polish with a woolen cloth containing a small amount of solid furniture wax, rubbing until all treated coral surfaces become shiny .
