Internal burner: what it is for, how to mount it on the PC

post-title

Guide to mounting an internal PC DVD or CD burner on a desktop or desktop computer.

Burner assembly

The burner has now become an indispensable accessory for any personal computer as it is useful for saving all types of data on optical media by making backup copies of audio cd dvd rom and cd iso in addition to the classic video dvd and compatible audio cd.

The recorder is a hardware device for creating or duplicating compact discs (CDs) or DVDs of data, audio and / or video.

With this type of optical drive it is possible to burn CD-Rs / DVD-Rs / DVD + Rs where writing on the medium is definitive and as such can no longer be edited and burns CD-RWs / DVD-RWs / DVDs + RW (called rewritable media) that can be reused multiple times for new writes.

There are internal and external burners depending on whether they are located inside the computer case or connected from the outside via USB or firewire interface. External burners have their own protection houses.

Since the sessions on CDs and DVDs must be written in one pass, without interruption, the recorders have a certain amount of cache, that is temporary internal memory, in which to store a few megabytes of data before starting to write.

If the computer is temporarily slowed down (for example because the files to be written are very fragmented), it cannot provide enough data to the burner, the latter will gradually clear the cache so that it can continue writing at a constant speed.

However, it is good to avoid excessive writing speeds anyway since if the cache runs out the cd is rendered unusable.

To cope with this problem, technologies have been developed that allow the burner to change on the fly at writing speed, adapting it to the speed of the incoming data stream; the best known systems are burn proof and safe link.

If it is an internal burner it will be necessary to proceed with the assembly inside the case which is not complicated at all.

Once the case is open, simply insert the burner into the appropriate free slot and connect the power and data cables.

If it is a burner with an ide interface, the jumpers on the back must be positioned in a slave or master position depending on the setting of another unit placed on the same channel.

If no other master unit is present, it will be fine.
