post-title

The Saint of the day 22 January is San Vincenzo of Zaragoza martyr, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.

San Vincenzo of Zaragoza

Born in Huesca in Spain, on an unspecified date, from a consular family, and died in Valencia on 22 January 304, Vincenzo was a cultured and eloquent young man who was chosen by the bishop of Zaragoza, as personal helper for the homilies, since he he was plagued by stuttering problems.

During the persecution of Diocletian, the bishop and Vincenzo were arrested by Daciano, governor of Valencia.

Vincenzo tried to convey the Gospel message to the governor, causing greater anger towards him as he considered it more dangerous than the bishop himself in his way of preaching.

For this reason he ordered to subject him to torture and afterwards to throw him in a dark cell littered with sharp shards.

Contrary to the forecasts Vincenzo, instead of complaining, began to sing with joy a hymn of thanksgiving to God who had given him a precious opportunity to give public testimony of his immense love for Christ.

So it was that, to deprive him of this privilege, he was made to lie down on a bed of feathers, but Vincenzo expired as soon as he touched the cushions.
