The Saint of the day January 28 is Saint Thomas Aquinas, which name day is celebrated and other saints are celebrated on this date.
Saint Thomas Aquinas
Born in 1225 and son of the Counts of Aquino, Tommaso was destined to pursue a political career or, alternatively, a dignified prelate career.
But against all odds of the people who surrounded him and believed they knew him, he declared that he wanted to enter the Order of San Domenico.
The family tried to dissuade him by any means but Thomas was adamant in his decision, which he felt as his true and only vocation.
He carried out his studies in Paris where his companions made fun of him because of his introverted character.
Theology was among the subjects that most interested Thomas, so much so that when he was immersed in the reading of texts relating to that topic, he was insensitive to any external stimulus.
Pope John XXII made him a Saint and, to those who claimed the lack of heroic virtues and miracles, he replied that Thomas had illuminated the Church to a greater extent than all the other Doctors had done.
