Saint Henry II emperor
Saint Henry II the Saint, born in Bad Abbach on May 6, 973 or 978 and died in Grona on July 13, 1024, was a Germanic emperor.
He was the son of Henry the Pacific, who died in 995, became Duke of Bavaria, was king of Italy from 1002 to 1024, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and last exponent of the Saxon dynasty.
Very religious and firmly convinced of the precise responsibilities of the Emperor towards the faith and well-being of his subjects, he had strong control over the Church and the monasteries of Germany, aimed above all at promoting a moral reform of customs and, at a political level, to oppose them in power and frequent interference by the aristocracy.
Henry II, was canonized in 1146 by Pope Eugene III, for the merit of having been a devoted emperor, is celebrated on July 13th.
