St. Anthony Maria Zaccaria

St. Anthony Maria Zaccaria, born in Cremona in 1502 and died in the same city on 5 July 1539 was a priest, doctor and one of the founders of the congregation of the Regular Clerics of San Paolo, better known as Barnabiti, name deriving from the Milanese church of San Barnaba, their first home.

Together with the Countess Ludovica Torelli of Guastalla, she created the female congregation of the Angeliche di Paolo converso and the lay congregation of the Maritati of San Paolo.

With these three congregations St. Anthony Maria Zaccaria wanted to create instruments of religious and moral awakening, in particular against the great enemy represented by lukewarmness and indifference.

Pope Leo XIII proclaimed him blessed in 1890 and holy in 1897.
