Santa Maria Goretti

Santa Maria Teresa Goretti, born in Corinaldo on October 16, 1890 and died in Nettuno on July 6, 1902, was an Italian virgin and martyr, who was subjected to murder following a rape attempt by a neighbor.

The information process on the heroic virtues at Albano was opened on May 31, 1935, while on March 25, 1945 Pope Pius XII, recognizing the authenticity of his martyrdom, beatified her on April 27, 1947.

It was subsequently canonized by the same pope on June 24, 1950 with a celebration held in St. Peter's square in Rome.
