Blessed Guido da Cortona
Born from a noble family, he grew up in an environment without financial straits.
When he became an adult, he decided to donate all his belongings to the poor, to become a follower of St. Francis of Assisi, after he had heard and fully accepted the preaching about the lifestyle to follow to get to God.
In 1211, once admitted to the Order, he dressed with the Franciscan habit at the Pieve di Santa Maria di Cortona, quickly becoming a priest, with the consequent authorization, by Saint Francis of Assisi, to preach the Gospel.
He spent the following years of his life at the Eremo delle Celle, near Cortona, which he had founded.
When he was still alive, he was already thought of as a saint.
When Guido's death occurred, his body was placed inside a marble sarcophagus, placed at the Church of Santa Maria in Cortona.
The head was separated from the body and kept in the well of the church, until the reunification of both, which took place in 1945 when they were placed under the altar of the Cathedral of Cortona.
