San Ranieri of Pisa

Born in 1118, his parents Gandulfo Scacceri and Mingarda Buzzacherini tried to give him an impeccable education but, despite this, he spent the adolescent years marked by a marked inclination to free time and fun.

His life was marked by the meeting with Alberto, who was a hermit originally from Corsica who settled in the Pisan monastery of San Vito.

So it was that, at nineteen, he decided to live the Christian faith fully and felt the desire to make a trip to the Holy Land.

After a few years, he was twenty-three to be exact, he wanted to live in total poverty and donated all his belongings to the poor.

He spent a long period among the hermits of the Holy Land, procuring the necessary to live only by making use of the few cash offerings that were made to him.

He nourished his body only twice a week, putting him to the test.

When he returned to Pisa in 1154, he performed miracles such as those he had done in the Holy Land and for which he had become famous.

On June 17, 1161 he died and in 1632 he was appointed patron saint of the city and of the diocese of Pisa.
