The Saint of the day 19 June is San Romualdo, which name day is celebrated and other saints who are celebrated on this date.
San Romualdo
Originally from Ravenna and of noble origin, Romualdo became a hermit and moved to Italy for several years, providing for the construction of small convents and promoting the evangelical life among all the monks he met, with the aim of reforming monasteries and hermitages following the model of the ancient cenobies of the East.
His fame and his charismatic way of preaching also favored contact with powerful, princes and prelates.
Among these, Otto III, after he had been converted by himself to the Christian faith, appointed him abbot of Santa Apollinare in Classe.
But after only a year, Romualdo gave up this position, preferring to retire to Montecassino to lead a strictly ascetic life.
From there he resumed his wanderings to go and build new monasteries, the last of which was the hermitage of Camaldoli in Tuscany, whose name derives from the plot of land that a certain Maldolo had given to Romualdo when he was looking for solitude .
