June 9: saint of the day, name day

post-title

The Saint of the day 9 June is Saint Ephrem, which name day is celebrated and other saints are celebrated on this date.

Ephrem

Ephrem was born in 306 in Nisibi, a city of Mesopotamia ruled militarily by Rome.

About the initial period of his life there is little news, however, coming from very different stories, the only sure thing is that relating to the baptism received when he was 18 years old.

He became a close friend of Bishop Giacomo, with whom he created and led a school of theology.

He was ordained a deacon before 338 by Bishop Giacomo, living and operating in Nisibi until the Persian conquest.

Alternating his ascetic life with teaching, Efrem retired in recent years to Edessa where he died on 9 June 373.

Saint Ephrem is revered by Christians all over the world, in 1920 he was declared a doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XV in an encyclical dated 5 October.

Ephrem is the author of numerous hymns, poems and homilies written in verse, as well as biblical commentaries elaborated in prosaic form.

The latter represent important works of practical theology, designed for the building up of the Church and written at a time when there was a profound crisis of the Christian faith.
